Serious question. Why is it that we sometimes treat the people we're meeting and dating with less courtesy than we give complete strangers?

Think about it. If the electrician calls and leaves a message, we call them back.

If the clerk at the store goes out of their way to help us find something, we thank them.

If a neighbor stops to ask about our dog, we smile and answer.

If someone invites us to a networking or neighborhood event, we let them know whether we're coming.

Most of us are solid humans. We move through the world making a reasonable effort to acknowledge other people, respond to them, and treat them with basic courtesy.

Yet somehow, when it comes to dating, some people feel comfortable disappearing without explanation, ignoring messages, leaving plans hanging, or simply failing to communicate. WHY THOUGH?

I've always found that fascinating because the people we're dating aren't less deserving of kindness than the stranger at the grocery store. If anything, they're more deserving.

After all, these are people we're getting to know. People who are sharing their time, energy, vulnerability, hopes, and attention with us. We teach our children to live by "The Golden Rule" and we expect the same from other as very baseline human behavior but it shouldn't stop applying when romance enters the picture.

TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. That's it. That's the message.

So, my challenge for you, singles... leave people with clarity, not confusion. A simple text, honest answer, or timely response can go a long way. ❤️
