Hello LoVers,

I hear some version of this on repeat: "Dating apps are depressing, but the idea of staying alone feels even worse. I give up!" And apparently, the numbers agree. This week, Bumble agreed to be acquired for approximately $1.3 billion after being valued at roughly $14 billion when it went public in 2021. Before the deal, its market value had fallen to about $582 million.

That definitely is NOT because people have stopped wanting love. It's because so many people are exhausted by the way they've been trying to find it.

The apps give us access to more people than ever, yet so many singles feel less connected than ever.

This week, I hosted a speed-networking event with New Canaan & Darien Lifestyle magazine, and it was beautiful to watch people come alive when connection was reHUMANized.

No profiles. No filters. No resumes. No overanalyzing a prompt.

Just two people giving each other their undivided attention. Making eye contact. Laughing. Listening. Connecting.

And honestly? People are so much more attractive when they're allowed to be fully human.

Dating apps are an opportunity, but they cannot capture someone's energy, warmth, wit or the way you feel in their presence. The only way they can work for you is if you stop treating profiles like final verdicts and start using them simply as doorways into real life interaction.

Move the conversation off the app and into real life ASAP.

Meet before you've created an entire version of them in your mind.

Tell your friends you're open to an introduction.

Put yourself in rooms where connection can happen.

And when someone is standing in front of you, put down your phone, soften your checklist and get curious.

You don't necessarily need more matches. You may just need more opportunities to remember that there is a real human being on the other side of every profile.

Where could you put yourself in the path of connection this week? Maybe it's time we all spent a little less time swiping and a little more time being seen.

TOP 3: Signs You Should Give Someone a Second Date

  1. You felt comfortable being yourself: You didn't spend the entire evening trying to impress them or wondering what they thought of you. You felt relaxed, respected, and able to have a real conversation. That kind of comfort can be more meaningful than instant butterflies.

  2. You left feeling curious: Maybe there wasn't an overwhelming spark—but you found yourself wondering about them afterward. You want to know more about their life, their interests, or what makes them tick. Curiosity is often a better reason for a second date than certainty.

  3. There were green flags, even if there wasn't instant chemistry: They listened. They were thoughtful. They followed through. You shared similar values or a sense of humor. If the fundamentals felt promising, don't dismiss the connection simply because you didn't feel fireworks in the first 90 minutes.
