Singles Sparks - CT and NY Matchmaker Insights for Singles - May 10 Edition

Hello LoVers,

I spent this past week in NYC at the Global Love Institute conference with 150+ dating and relationship professionals from around the world, and I have to say… one of my favorite parts of this work is the incredible community of colleagues I’ve come to know, love, and collaborate with. I can't even count how many client-to-client matches I left there ready to present to my private clients. My heart (and to-do list!) is so full!

The week was filled with conversations and seminars about emotional connection, vulnerability, communication, attachment styles, human behavior, and modern dating dynamics. I left overflowing with inspiration and excitement for what’s ahead for Jillin’ It clients and singles community alike.

One theme kept resurfacing over and over again: The importance of CLARITY + COMMUNICATION.

So many people stay stuck in limbo in early relationship waiting for the other person to define the relationship first. But one of the biggest shifts in dating happens when you stop putting the ball entirely in their court.

Instead of wondering and asking “What are we?” Decide what YOU are available for, share it and ask if they want to meet you there. “I’ve really been enjoying this time together. For me, after this amount of time, I prefer to be exclusive. How do you feel about that?” It’s direct. Grounded. Confident.

The goal isn’t to force a label, it’s to see whether someone is aligned with the kind of relationship you actually want and not sitting around waiting for them to CHOOSE YOU. You need to CHOOSE YOURSELF.

Remember, a person who is truly intentional doesn’t leave you constantly guessing. They're honest about what they're capable of or ready for and it's UP TO YOU to decide if that works for YOU.

1. Go in With 3 Non-Negotiables (Not 20 Preferences): You don’t need a long checklist—just a few deal-breakers that actually matter. If they miss one of these early, don’t rationalize it.

2. Watch Behavior: People are usually very clear in the first few dates—you just have to take it at face value. Early inconsistency rarely turns into later consistency.

3. Ask Light but Revealing Questions: You don’t need heavy conversations—just smart ones. You’re not judging their answers—you’re looking for clarity vs vagueness.
