Hello Lovers,

Something hit to me this week as I’ve been considering candidates for different support roles here at Jillin’ It. It occurred to me how much dating is actually like hiring. You’re “hiring” for the most important position in your life. So, you should date like you're hiring: don't just look for chemistry, look for character. The elusive “sparks” are fun, but it's shared values, communication, and consistency that build real relationships. Think long-term. Would you 'hire' this person to be your life partner? Choose someone who shows up, not just someone who shows off. Anyone can craft an impressive resume but you won’t really know if they’re a keeper until they’ve already been hired.

Remember: Even the most exciting job interview doesn’t guarantee a great employee and the same goes for first dates. Just some food for though.

Want to chat? Get in touch to I can see if I can help and get in the Jillin’ It LoVe Club for monthly live roundtables, preferred database status, discounts on events and so much more.

HOT TOPIC: MODERN DATING LINGO

ree

When did finding love become so complex that it feels like a new dating term emerges seemingly every day? You probably have heard some terms of “ghosting” and “love bombing.” However, others, such as “dry texting,” “rusting,” and “sweatpants theory,” are likely less familiar.

TOP 3: Signs Someone Is Floodlighting

ree
  1. Immediately Overshare Personal Traumas: Some people floodlight because they mistakenly believe that such vulnerability creates instant intimacy. Instead of strengthening bonds, oversharing can make the other person take a step back, creating emotional distance rather than closeness.

  2. Expect Instant Emotional Reciprocity: Opening up in a new relationship should be a mutual process unfolding gradually as trust develops. But when someone floodlights, they often anticipate immediate emotional reciprocity, expecting their date to share their own deep vulnerabilities in return.

  3. Use Vulnerability to Test Acceptance: Vulnerability is a powerful tool for connection, but when it’s used to test whether someone will accept you, it can create unintended emotional pressure. Instead of encouraging genuine intimacy, oversharing too soon can become a defense mechanism.
